A perfect time to meet a midwife

Amrita (pictured, sitting right) resides in the Haluaghat sub-district of Mymensingh District.

She is married to her husband Simanto, who is a farmer. Amrita and Simanto have two sons and have been together for ten years. The eldest son is five years old and the younger son is one month old (as at time of interview).

Trust is built

Amrita met Prapti (pictured, standing back left) , the Symbiosis midwife, by chance while she was visiting her family. Amrita had gained confidence in Symbiosis through her connection to the Dhobaura Haluaghat Project (DHP) where she had learnt about financial savings.

During the introduction to Prapti, Amrita revealed the news of her unborn child but conveyed that she could not tell the exact amount of time she had been pregnant.

Ante-natal care

Prapti undertook an initial consultation before inviting Amrita to come to DHP office for check-ups during her pregnancy. While regular check-ups are part of maintaining any healthy pregnancy, Prapti had some concerns for Amrita’s physical condition.

On this advice, Amrita was diligent in her visits to the DHP office every month for a physical examination. From these visits, Amrita was able to access calcium, iron and vitamins capsules and education to better support her health during pregnancy.

A Baby Boy is born

At nine months, Amrita’s health declined, and her medical conditions became increasingly complicated. Noticing that she needed more intensive medical care, Prapti referred Amrita to Joyramkura Hospital for better treatment.

However, on the way to the hospital Amrita gave birth to her second son! Despite the challenging birthing conditions thankfully, Amrita had no problems during delivery.

Postnatal care

When Amrita returned home, Prapti came to visit and to take the baby’s weight and measurements. The baby’s birth weight was 3.5kg, which is very healthy.

Amrita is thankful that she was able to get good treatment at the right time for herself and her baby. At the time of this interview, Amrita expressed her gratitude to the organization and wished good health to all staff.

When the time came, Prapti was there

Your support to our fundraising appeal (click the button above) allows for help to be given to more women by a Symbiosis midwife like Prapti, who was there at the right time able to facilitate medical access and support for Amrita and her baby.

At the time Amrita needed to be regularly checked during her pregnancy, Prapti could be there.

At the time Amrita and the Baby needed supplementary nutrition to grow healthily, Prapti could provide it.

At the time Amrita needed further medical treatment , she was referred onward to the right level of care.

And even though Amrita did not make it to the hospital for the birth, she had been educated on what to do when the time came.

And when it was time to come home from the hospital, Prapti was still there.
