Transforming Lives Through Hair and Beauty Training

In communities where opportunities are limited, a vocational skill can be a lifeline. For marginalised and underprivileged women, gaining a skill isn’t just about finding a job, it’s about building a future, reclaiming dignity, and moving from dependency to sustainable living. This is the powerful mission behind our Hair and Beauty Training Project (HBTP).

The HBTP aims to equip women with professional skills in hair and beauty therapy, enabling them to secure employment and build independent lives. Over the past year, the project has made remarkable progress, successfully training 41 students across our long, medium, and short courses. The goal was to reach 38 women, and we’re proud to have surpassed that target, a testament to both the community’s eagerness and our team’s dedication.

The real measure of success lies not just in the number of graduates, but in the lives being transformed. Of the 18 students who completed the intensive long course, 15 are now successfully employed. Among the 16 who finished the medium course, 10 have found jobs. In total, 25 of our recent graduates have secured employment, a powerful indicator of the program’s effectiveness and the high demand for their skills.

Our training is designed to be comprehensive, ensuring participants gain personal training, guidance and the skills they need to excel in the industry. They learn technical skills in hairdressing and beauty treatments, which are directly applicable in the workplace. The project’s success is further validated by the income generated from students’ providing beauty services, meaning the training parlour has become financially self-sustaining.

To understand the true impact of our Hair and Beauty Training Project, let us share the story of Mukta, a 22-year-old woman whose life was profoundly changed by the program.

Mukta grew up in a stable home, where her father ran a successful salon business. When he passed away unexpectedly, the family’s financial situation deteriorated. The sudden loss left her and her mother struggling to cover basic expenses like housing and food. Inspired by her father’s profession, Mukta began working as an assistant at a local parlour, but without formal training, her work prospects were limited.

It was during this time that she met a former student of Symbiosis Bangladesh, who recognized her potential and introduced her to the Hair and Beauty Training Project. Over the course of her training, Mukta developed far more than professional skills. With our support, she gained confidence, sharpened her expertise, and unlocked a new path to an independent and stable life, fundamentally transforming her career and personal growth.

Upon graduating, Mukta secured a full-time job at a beauty parlour with a consistent monthly salary. The ability to provide for her family has given her a sense of fulfillment and responsibility, and her newfound independence has been a source of immense pride for her family.

“I am deeply grateful to Symbiosis for this opportunity,” Mukta shared.

“The training changed my life. I now have a job, can support my mother, and feel hopeful about the future.”

Mukta’s story is just one of many. Every successful graduate represents a life no longer defined by hardship, but by potential and opportunity. By investing in these women, we are not only providing them with skills, but also with dignity, confidence, and the means to create a better future for themselves and their families.

The Hair and Beauty Training Project is more than a project; it is a movement toward empowerment, proving that a single opportunity can lead to a lifetime of change.
