Just three days after Fahim was born, Farida realised something wasn’t okay.
Following several seizures, the doctor gave a diagnosis of pneumonia and jaundice.
Fahim lived with undetected cerebral palsy for many years, which has meant a life of dependence for him and struggle for his family as they continued with years of ineffective treatment.
Raising Fahim alongside her three other children was immensely challenging and painful for Farida.
She faced the constant difficulty of balancing household tasks with providing full-time care for Fahim, needing to literally carry him in her arms everywhere.
“I had to carry him everywhere. Even when taking him to the doctor, I had to carry him in my arms.
(Now) taking him anywhere means I won’t have to carry him in my arms anymore, which makes things a bit easier for me.” – Farida
Now that 24-year-old Fahim has received a wheelchair, the burden has eased just a little, making it possible for family to take him outdoors and give him opportunities to enjoy the community.
